what flavor pocky are you?

I don't know which is worse, being Milk Pocky or being Kip Dynamite. Thoughts?

Yesterday my mother sent me an e-mail asking if I had forgotten my glasses at home, because she saw a pair sitting on the sofa table.

They were hers.

Spring Break: Recap

The good

Too much to list. Best time I've had in a long time. Notable stuff includes:
  • getting a direct flight home, circumventing the need to stop over in Calgary
  • finally going to SFU and playing arts student
  • the opening of a new Flying Wedge in Coquitlam
  • winning a net $2 in poker
  • skipping the Suave Mofos to a victory in their season closer
  • free probiotic yogurt at Commercial Drive station, out of the back of a Volkswagen with Quebec plates
  • a second, and much better, Elvis platter
  • playing Settlers of Catan in real life, face-to-face with the real people I've played online for months now
  • A&W in the SUB
  • wearing a WWJD? shirt in public
  • finalizing work plans for the summer
  • eating, at a single Math Club barbecue, two hot dogs, a burger, and numerous cans of pop, all for free
  • the hottt waitress at Soho CafĂ©
  • hitting up Virgin Megastore for the first time in ages

The bad

  • The surly owner of Memphis Blues
  • the urge to go back there the day after, regardless of how offended I was
  • the lack of a sweet onion burger at Red Robin
  • folding on 10-2, off-suit
  • the Metro
  • not having steak and eggs with Steve
  • not participating in SFU student politics
  • freaky hot-tempered foosball players
  • general lack of LUGs (except Jowen)
  • having to get back to work

The ugly

  • Cheese sushi. American cheese + Japanese idea = 100% Korean

What's Wang this Week: Spring break edition

You know that feeling you get when you have stuff to do but you're so relieved at having most of it done that you can't get motivated to do any more, and instead you sit on your hands doing nothing? I like that feeling.

Good news: I have activated my old undergrad CS account, and I might still be able to recover my old school files. That means I can go through my old code and re-learn how to program in C++, or at least compile BrowserTron 2002b. Bad news: my computer in Berkeley isn't responding. I fear there was a power outage, taking my beloved compy offline. I sure hope it isn't anything serious, I don't feel like putting together a new computer and losing all of my beloved music and documents.

I might be getting an office for the summer at UBC. Even cooler, I might get a cool title like "Visiting Scholar" or "Visiting Graduate Student". I'm moving on up in the world, I tells you. Not that the office or the cool title will keep me from spending hours at a time in the Math Club, but the point is that it should, and that's good enough for me.

I went to SFU on Monday and went to an English class with Brianne. Man, it took me back. It makes me think about the big decisions I've made: going into not English; going to not SFU. I wonder what my life would be like, going to SFU every day and reading books. Maybe I would still know how to read.

Here is a picture of half of an Elvis platter:

To summarize my second encounter with the Elvis platter:
  • Elvis platter: good
  • Surly guy at Memphis Blues: bad. Jerk.

The stern talking-to the guy gave us made the meat taste worse (but not much worse). As Balin said, though, "Well, he even put his hand on my shoulder. But I still don't care." I need a bit of that kind of "meh" in me, I think.

Since I am not coherent, I shall sign off with a picture of Adam and me romantically sharing a dessert.

Thing at home I am glad to be rid of #4: The steam heating in the Math buildings

It's a good thing I wasn't allergic to temperature changes.

Note to self

Don't forget Matt's birthday. Nick Grylls' and Allaina van Reeuwyk's birthdays are of peripheral importance.

Hooray for ICQ birthday reminders.

Delayed Reaction: Celebrities

I just realized that Tom Wopat played Bo (or Luke, I don't really care) Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard"! I had no idea why the guy looked so familiar, or why he was famous, or why I had heard of him when they used his name and face on "South Park", but now I know. Hot damn.

I used to say that I didn't understand what people saw in Carrie-Anne Moss, and that I have never thought she was hot, ever. Well, I was wrong, because a few weeks back I found out that way back in the day she was on "Models Inc." and damn, was she hot in that show. So, just like that episode of "Mad About You" where Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt realize that they had met when they were kids, I am forced to eat my words because of something that happened when I was 12.

And to think I almost left a pile of sugar outside for them

You know, it wasn't so bad when they were just in my bathroom. Even when they started flocking towards some spilled milk in my kitchen, I wasn't all that distressed. But last night I got home and found that ants had found their way into my cupboard. I am down one box of stale Frosted Flakes.

I used to feel bad about wiping them up and washing them away. I'd try to pick them up and throw them outside whenever it was practical. I used to really like ants. I even wanted to buy SimAnt at some point in my life. But as Regan said, "Ants are fun until they get inside your house." And then they go and mess with my food. Well, that's it. From now on I'm a stone-cold take-no-prisoners mofo when it comes to ants.

Maybe I should try to capture them in a jar and make an ant farm.

I liked the old Robin better

It's a good day for funny stuff on the internet.

Batman's Greatest Boner

Said it once before, but it bears repeating

This warrants its own proper mention on this blog:

William Shatner doing "Rocketman"

I was reading some old South Park episode recaps the other day. When Wendy dumped Stan, Bebe told him to try to win her back by standing outside her window with a stereo playing Peter Gabriel. He then went to her window and played "Shock the Monkey". Just reading that made me laugh out loud.
